About Melissa

Raised in the high desert of Eastern Oregon, I’ve always been drawn to landscapes that remind me of the calmness, paired with the innate slowness that was shown to me when I was young.

This has inspired an approach of my documentation style that highlights natural rhythms—yet feels refined. I utilize a multitude of mediums, both film and digital, to accurately convey a feeling and to carefully translate that into imagery you’d consider family heirlooms. After mothering kids of my own, the mundane became so much more impactful in my daily life—documenting the seemingly subtle and ordinary.

My creative process is directly connected to my surroundings in our own home—welcoming natural light, mixing textures + woods to bring in a warmness, and including surprising pops of color that remind you of the hidden joys. My observative nature and artful approach lends support to the unfolding of moments—striving to document feeling, rather than perfection.

You’ll oftentimes find me drinking multiple cups of coffee, raising our two sweet children with my husband; which means numerous trips to the park and neighborhood walks, finding a new house project to design, traveling to new and familiar places alike, and spending time with those I love most.

Things that bring me joy

An iced coffee, a cozy sweater, analog film, the warmth of the morning sun, a slice of bread with butter, the sound of the ocean, intentional interior design, a freshly sharpened pencil
